What should I wear for my session?
The goal of a portrait session is to focus on the face. When choosing an outfit you don’t want to pick something that will draw attention away from your face. Avoid selecting outfits that feature bright colors, loud patterns, busy prints, or logos. Denim in any color for pants and jackets works well. It’s classic, it’s informal and it comes in lots of great colors. For shirts black is a great color, so is white and different shades of basic colors such as red, green, blue along with maroon make great choices. My personal favorite color shirt for portrait sessions is brown, or navy blue. I really like navy blue also. If you have a session that involves more than one person such as a family session or engagement session be sure to choose colors that complement each other. It’s not necessary to be matching, but keeping everyone dressed in similar styles looks great.
The most important thing is to be comfortable. Wear something you can easily move around in. If your daughter hates wearing dresses don’t make her wear one for her portraits, if your son hates wearing shoes don’t force them. Being relaxed, laid back, and having fun, will show more in your portraits than the finest of clothing!
Can I change outfits?
Yes! Bring more than one outfit. If you want to change up the look of your portrait bringing a change of clothes is the quickest way to do it. Also items such as coats, jackets, or scarves can help change your look quickly and with very little effort.
How many different outfits can I choose?
There is no limit on the amount of outfits you can bring, however keep in mind that most portrait sessions last about an hour. Changing clothes takes time. You don’t want to spend your entire portrait session time changing clothes. I recommend bring 1 or 2 changes of clothes. If you have a large family group I don’t recommend outfit changes. Also keep in mind that if your session is planned for a public location such as a park, a private area for changing may not be available.
Where will my session take place?

Can the family dog be in our photos?
Yes! Your dog is an important member of the family. However you may want to bring someone not involved with the portrait session to hold the dog while he is not needed for photos, or if he is not being cooperative. Be sure to bring a leash!
Can I bring my guitar?
Yes! Personal items such as your guitar, a favorite toy, a pet, an umbrella, whatever! The portrait session is about capturing your personality personal items help add value to the portraits. If you think it might be cool for a photograph bring it with you. We may not use it for every photo, maybe not even at all but having options is great.
